Field Trip

Nov. 6, 2014

Dear Parents,

Our field trip to Grouse Mountain is quickly approaching.
As of yesterday, we were still in need of at least one more driver if possible.

If you have volunteered to drive, PLEASE make sure as soon as possible (particularly as school is not in session on Monday or Tuesday of next week) that you have all of the correct insurance and volunteer info up to date with our school office, which includes, I believe, an updated criminal records check.

In regards to the inquires that I have received about it being a hot lunch day, rather than cancelling or postponing, we have decided to have children pack a bag lunch as per usual, and the hot lunch will be waiting for them at school when they return from the field trip.

On a side note, scholastic forms came home yesterday dated Nov. 10, but it looks like it will be nov. 12 when they return to school. Thank you.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam

Field Trip - IMPORTANT

October 31, 2014

Dear Parents,

Happy Halloween! Enjoy and be safe!

FIELD TRIP -  a notice came home this week regarding a field trip for grade 1's and 2's to Grouse Mountain in about two weeks time. Please take a close look at all information on the form and send back with payment as soon as possible so we can allow time to organize drivers.

If you are able to drive, please indicate on the bottom of the permission form.
To qualify for "carpooling" and free parking, you need to have at least 2 students in your vehicle. We are able to have a couple of parents come on the activities with us without additional cost. We are doing this on a first come basis. Other drivers have the option of drop off and pick up, or coming up the mountain to do your own touring.

All parent drivers will need to make sure insurance papers, volunteer driver forms, etc. are up to date with the office please.

Not mentioned on the form, but important to note, students will need to pack a BAG LUNCH on that day.

If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam

Dear Parents,

It was great to meet so many of you last week at our curriculum evening!

Important- we are required to have a PAC rep for our class to be a contact, as well as occasionally send out information. Please let us know ASAP if you are able to do this job as we are still in need of one.

We are off to a busy start. Yesterday was the first day of guided reading, which means students are now bringing home a homework folder and a homework bag that needs to come back to school EACH DAY. Students will also be given reading homework.

Classroom Home Reading- students will choose a levelled book from the shelves near our back table to take home for oral reading practice, as well as recording what they have been reading.

Math- we have been looking at different patterns, developing, comparing, and describing them

Choosing- stations where students will be mixing with kids from other classes in the area, will be starting next week

Pro-d- with Mark Landry on Friday Oct. 10. No school for students that day

September 2014 startup

September 23, 2014

Dear Parents,

Welcome to grade 2!
Although we will be passing on much more information to you in the coming weeks, particularly at our Curriculum Evening, there are a few important things that we need to mention now.

1. Forms- a package of forms went home with students today that need to be filled out and returned as soon as possible, particularly the one regarding walking field trips as we will need that for students to be able to participate in the Terry Fox Run this Thursday as scheduled.
Related to that, we will also be collecting Toonies For Terry on Thursday as we have in the past if you are able to donate.

2. Supplies- we have started to sort our supplies. Over the next few days we will be checking to see that students have the things they need. We understand with the uncertainty of startup and the flood of last minute shopping depleting store supplies that some might take a bit longer to arrive.

3. Snacks, lunches, and recycling- in encouraging more litter less lunches, we are trying something new this year- we are asking students to take home any items that can be composted, as well as drink/snack containers that can be recycled.

4. Classroom volunteers- I will be sending home a form related to being a volunteer if you are able or interested.

5. Allergy- due to the number of allergies in our school, including one of our own, we are now considered a Peanut Aware school.

We look forward to working with you and your children this year!

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam and Mrs. Faganello
