Dear Parents,

Here are some things that have been happening in our classroom and Area B.

We have been busy doing math around the concept of adding and subtracting, and how adding and subtracting relate to each other. We will soon be talking about "doubles" eg. 5+7= 6+6

We have continued to participate in activities around family as well as community and neighbourhood. This week we have been including discussions related to the upcoming Chinese New Year.

 

In February, 2 important events will be 100's Day, which for us will fall around the 12th , as well as Valentine's Day. We will be asking students to bring in a collection of 100 items that they can sort and count with, s please encourage your child to start thinking about what they might like to bring.

Students will be welcome to bring in valentines for classmates on Valentine's Day, keeping in mind that we encourage students to please include all of their classmates.

Winter Workshops etc.

Jan. 13, 2014

Dear Parents,

Pictures- if students are able to bring in a picture of themselves for one of the choosing activities, and also, if students could please bring in a small family photo to be used with our family trees that we are making. 

Workshops- Area B students are doing workshops the next few Wednesdays, and possibly a Tuesday with a Social Studies focus, and I am hoping to take students on a Neighbourhood walk as part of my activity. In order to do so, I need to have at least one other adult accompany us. If you are able/available either on January 15, 22, or 29 from 1-2pm please let Mrs. Kam know ASAP .

Spelling- this week is unit 14

Reminder- this Friday is Curriculum Implementation Day and there will be no classes for students.

A New Year!

Dear Parents,

Welcome back and Happy New Year! Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable and restful holiday.

A reminder that anyone wishing to order scholastic should have their orders in by tomorrow, January 8.

In Math we are currently working on adding and subtracting. We encourage you to support your child by giving them a few practice questions at home to reinforce the concept of :

Eg. If 4+3=7 , then 7- 3 = 4

In Social Studies, we are still discussing Family, Celebrations, and Traditions. Children may be asked to do or discuss a family tree, so please help them to know the names of some family members.
