December 10, 2016
Dear Parents,
Hope you are all enjoying (surviving!) the snow!
Looking towards next week, a reminder of our Jingle Walk pick-up on Monday afternoon. Please help your children to dress for the potentially cold or wet weather that we may have.
Also, a request that if you have any boxes you could send along for when the donations are returned to the school, they would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if students have little bells or a Christmas hat they wish to wear, those are also welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Mrs. Kam

Week of December 5-9, 2016
Dear Parents,
Here are some things to be aware of over the coming days.
Weather- as I'm sure many of you have seen, the temperatures are supposed to be dropping a bit this week( and maybe even snow), so please help your children to dress appropriately.
Jingle Mingle- as advertised on flyers and mentioned in bulletins, Brooksbank's annual Jingle Mingle is happening this coming Wednesday starting at 5:00, so come on out!
A big thank you also for the basket donations!
IMPORTANT : Jingle Walk- Friday the 9th students will be handing out flyers with Mrs. Venturini . She would like to take the class out between recess and lunch. She will need at least one parent helper, so please let us know if you are able to help. On Monday the 12th, I will be taking the class out after lunch to do the donation pick up. I have one parent that has volunteered, but need at least one more, and will need one to be our driver. Please let me know if you are able.
Christmas Concert- this will be happening on Wednesday December 14 from 7-8 pm. Based on what our music selection looks like, I think red or white holiday best would be appropriate. Perhaps boys could wear black on the bottom and a red or white shirt.
Gingerbread Houses- just a heads up that we will be doing our annual gingerbread house building towards the end of the last week before Christmas. A notice will be coming home, but traditionally the teacher provides the graham crackers, and students bring in such things as candy, icing, a plate, and a 250ml empty milk carton to build around.
Report Cards- as mentioned by Mr. Kelly, report cards will be available for viewing at the end of this week.
Please let us know if there are any questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam

Dear Parents,
As part of our discussions on traditions and celebrations in Social Studies, I am asking students ( with your help) to please complete at home the following two sheets and have them back by Monday December 5th. I know that many of you have bigger families (than the tree holds!), so just fit what you can of the most immediate and go from there.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam

Jingle Walk
Dear Parents,
As we approach December, I wonder if you might be able to check your calendars to see if you are available to give us a hand on the day we hand out flyers and the day we pick up donations for our annual Jingle Walk. It will be on the 9th and 12th.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam

November 14 Week important
Dear Parents,
As mentioned in Natalie's email, we were just given the opportunity to visit City Hall (in relation to our Social Studies) but as we are on a very short timeline and the students are not back in until Tuesday, I asked if she could let parents know as soon as possible to see if we could round up enough drivers.
The field trip is on Tuesday November 22 at 11:00 (for about 30-45 minutes) so we would need driver help on either side of that.
If you happen to know ahead of this Tuesday before the notice goes out that you might be able to drive, please don't hesitate to email me directly.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Lisa Kam

Week of October 24
Dear Parents,
A few things happening:
As mentioned just previously, our school is currently collecting food and candy donations this week leading up to Halloween. A bin has been set up in the front entrance hallway.
In addition, used batteries are being collected ( the container is currently by our school office).
PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS- those will be happening next week on Tuesday Nov. 1, Wednesday Nov. 2, and Thursday Nov. 3. We are going to both be in attendance on Tuesday, and trying to have both of us here also on Thursday. As per usual, a sign up board will be going up shortly in the main entrance. Please be sure to sign up; if for some reason you are unable to get into the building to sign up, please let us know and we will help with that.
Photo Retakes- those will be coming up on November 4
Halloween- next week already! As in the past, on Monday there will be a school wide parade in the afternoon. Students are asked not to bring weapons of any kind and avoid wearing masks.
Social Studies- one of the things we have been talking a lot about is our individual responsibilities ( largely at home and school) and now branching out into the community, environment, and maybe even globally. I encourage you to talk this subject up with your child at home to start generating some ideas about what they know already.
In math we have moved into counting and basic adding and subtracting concepts. We will be working with larger numbers a bit later.
Home Reading- a reminder that tomorrow is when students need to exchange their classroom home reading books.
Thank you.

Michael Bortolloto
Dear Parents,
We were also very fortunate to have Michael as a guest in our school on Wednesday. He is a motivational speaker, which comes from his own personal experience as someone living with Cerebral Palsy. He emphasized the importance of trying to get to know people , not just assuming what they are about by how they look on the outside. It was very powerful.
Garden Visit
Dear Parents,
We were fortunate to have lovely weather for our visit to Loutet Farm, where we collected seeds and did a bingo search for some of the various items and things growing in the garden. We will be going again later in the year.

Garden Visit on October 12
Dear Parents,
Hopefully you have all had a nice Thanksgiving weekend.
We have been given the opportunity to visit Loutet Farm this coming Wednesday after recess. More information will be coming, but in the interest of shortness of time, I am wondering if there is a parent who is interested or able to attend with us. It wil be for approximately 40 minutes.
Please let me know.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam

Student of the Week
Dear Parents,
I wanted to give you an image of a notice that will be coming home with your child when it is their turn to be student of the week in our classroom. Students will be required to make a poster about themselves ( which we will hang up) as well as bring in other items to share during their week.
Thank you.
Mrs. Kam
September 23, 2016
Dear Parents,
It was great to see so many of you out last night for Meet the Teacher. For anyone that was unable to attend, we put forms and information into your child's mailbox today.
If you have any questions, please do ask.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam

Dear Parents,
PLANNERS: This week, your child will start to bring home a planner. We hope to use it as valuable means to communicate information on activities, notices, and homework etc. as well as for parents and teachers to communicate. There are also other pages in the planners that will be useful in a variety of subjects.
***We ask that you please SIGN IT each night so we know that you have seen it, and that it comes to school EVERY DAY (along with their homework bags that they will have)
Forms- thank you for taking the time to send back comfort kits, fees and the package of forms that went out at the beginning of the year. In looking at our schedule, I see that we have the Terry Fox Run coming up and it will be important that we have your child's Walking Field Trip permission form in.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday night.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kam
